Japanese NISMO Edition 370z Spotted in the Wild

June 8th, 2009

20090607-nismo-09

Yep we’ve seen NISMO special edition Z34s before but, not this one. At first thought one would expect any Nismo badged 370z to be another mildly tweaked Autech Nismo S-Tune but this bears more resemblance to the 380RS in it’s aero design. It’s got wider tires than standard and Yamaha Performance Suspension. Could Nismo be preparing a more seriously tuned 370z ala 380RS?

Of course the basic facts are that this could just be a US NISMO edition that wound up in Japan instead. In fact, now that I think about it – that’s almost certainly what it is. Damn.

TAS09: Nismo S-Tune Z – Factory Goodness

January 13th, 2009

tas09-370zblog-nismo-101

Nismo’s S-Tune Z finally made itself available for our viewing pleasure at Tokyo AutoSalon. It’s one thing to see a car in a manufacturers promotional material but it’s a completely different thing to see it in the flesh and I bet you were all wondering if it really was that good? Well I can safely say that yes it’s damn good. For a big name car manufacturer such as Nissan to make an aero kit this good it signals that something is going right inside the company.

The Nismo S-Tune Z isn’t actually a Nismo product at all however, it’s designed and manufactured by Autech, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nissan which in the past has done quite a number of special version Nissans we know and love. The four door R33 GT-R, the RB26 powered Stagea wagon and the bizzare naturally aspirated RB26 four door R32 to name a few. It wears the Nismo badge simply because of the way Nissan corporate has structured the Nismo street tune parts business these days. That and it sounds good and carries that international brand awareness thing with it.

All this means is that the parts are tested to Nissan’s own high quality standards and are built to the same standards as the rest of the Z.

The Nismo S-Tune Z is a great car to see and to have a warranty to go with it is another great plus. It’s going to be interesting to see what Nissan North America do with the Z NISMO coming to the US this year.

Nismo S-Tune Z Confirmed For US Market

December 21st, 2008

Nissan announced at launch (and leaked pre-launch of course) that the 370z, at least in it’s home town, would also be offered in a tuned Nismo version, the Nismo S-Tune Fairlady Z to be precise. The Nismo options in Japan will add about $14,000 to the sticker price of the Z.

Today we received a internal memo from Nissan detailing Nissan’s plan to launch the Nismo S-Tune version of the 370z in the US market in June of 2009. This is great news for US enthusiasts wanting the hottest spec model from Nissan.

From the literature we’ve received it appears that the Z NISMO edition in the US should feature the same upgrades the Japanese model received such as the aero kit, exhaust and suspension.

For those who cannot wait, or for those looking to go their own way and make something unique, the aftermarket should be able to look after all your needs. Stay tuned for updates on more Z news as it rolls in.

We just happened to be in Tokyo for the first day of the brand new Nissan Z34 Fairlady/370z being on sale in Japan. I headed off to Ginza to check it out at the Nissan Gallery and sure enough there were two in the gallery.
